Friday, 30th April 2010 was a momentous day for Upcycle - it was the day we took our first baby step creating the public face for the Upcycle Upliftment Centre. Upcycle, in conjunction with Something Else situated next door to the Home of the Chicken Pie in Lanseria (about 30min from Johannesburg on the R512), launched the Upcycle Upliftment Centre with an enthusiastic bunch of soon-to-be Upcyclers and craft teachers.

After many years of going at it on our own, we have finally found partners in Something Else, a gift store specialising in handmade local gifts.  They have kindly donated space so we can set-up a centre to train and uplift people to make money from junk. The fantastic thing with this arrangement is that Something Else has agreed to sell the items that are made in their gift shop, providing a much-needed source of revenue for our Upcyclers.  Friday was our first day with 5 enthusiastic ladies from the local community; we have started to teach them to make gift boxes from 2L coke bottles.
