Who we are - Professional Treehuggers

No, we don’t get paid to smoke grass and hug trees, we’re a network of skilled and dedicated individuals who are experienced trainers, crafters, event managers, logistics experts, teambuilders and motivational speakers (but mainly crafters & trainers!), working together through our one common interest – a love for our home, Planet Earth.

Why Upcycle?

Upcycle was born from our need as creative individuals to create usable and useful items from the things that surround us.  The amount of junk we throw away each day provided us with tons of raw materials.  It wasn’t long before we found that we could manufacture pretty much anything from “junk”, from picture frames to gift boxes, from yo-yos to hanging gardens to serving bowls – the list is truly endless!

One of our main goals is to teach and empower individuals to generate their own income from the resources they have at hand.  We started off by taking individuals from impoverished areas to our home office, and teaching them the skills they need to create useful and usable items from the free and unutilised junk they could find.  This doesn't just clean up the environment they live in, but also generates income for them and their families.

Training individuals how to Upcycle benefits us too – whenever a client needs corporate gifts, we have a skilled and dedicated workforce to call upon – allowing us to provide bulk, earth-friendly gifts with ridiculously low turnaround times on the one hand, while providing much needed employment on the other.

In our quest for a healthy Earth and realising just how much waste is generated from offices, Upcycle is proud to offer fun corporate teambuilding events, interactive lectures, workshops and green audits - providing the ideal platform to build strong office relationships and create green awareness.

Our dream

We would like to expand our teaching program to reach out to more people and empower them, teaching them how make useful and usable items from free, unutilised JUNK!  Finding junk is the easy part (how much junk do you generate each day?), the hard bit is finding a venue to teach and empower people...

We also want to create awareness among corporates, as offices generate huge amounts of waste, and the staff who work there often have the resources to make a difference, not only in their own lives, but to reach out to others too.

How can you help?

If you have junk (and yes, you do!)… save it, it could save us having to trawl through the rubbish dumps and it helps create employment Donate your junk to us and we will be happy to collect. We can even arrange spring cleaning days to help you get rid of unwanted furniture, CDs, buttons, bows, string, tires, clothes, …you name it, if it does not rot, we want it!
